How We Started
The research phase involved conducting user interviews with 15 households in Toronto and Mississauga to understand ordering habits and trust barriers, performing competitive benchmarking on apps like TruLocal, HalalWorldDepot, and Instacart to analyze flow efficiency and trust cues, and creating empathy maps that revealed “trust in freshness” and “clarity in halal sourcing” as the primary decision drivers, ultimately leading to the key insight that users don’t just want meat—they want proof of quality, convenience, and cultural confidence.

The core UX revolved around simplicity and reassurance:
The solution included smart search and filters for quick access to meat types, cuts, and preparation preferences, source transparency through supplier profiles, halal certifications, and freshness badges on every product card, a personalized quick-reorder section for frequently purchased items, and delivery confidence features such as real-time order tracking with temperature updates while the order is on the way.

The design language centered on freshness, authenticity, and warmth, using a color palette of clean whites and deep reds to represent freshness and trust, rounded humanistic typography to create a friendly community feel, a visual style built around high-quality food photography and local farm imagery for credibility, and micro-interactions with subtle animations that made the checkout experience feel fluid and rewarding.
